Images in Electrophysiology: Multiple Effects of Radiofrequency Ablation

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation is the preferred choice for the treatment of symptomatic reentrant arrhythmias associated with accessory pathways or dual atrioventricular conduction. The mechanism of irreversible tissue injury by the RF catheter ablation is primarily thermally mediated [1,2]. The myocardial cellular electrophysiological effects of hyperthermia muscle have been recently outlined in an in vitro model of isolated ventricular pappillary muscle [3]. This animal study may provide insight into a number of interesting clinical observations made during RF ablation. We report a case involving several effects of RF ablation in a patient with preexcitation.

An Investigation of Brightness Changes in Ultrasound Images due to Temperature Variations in Liver Tissue during Radiofrequency Ablation

Introduction: one of the minimally invasive methods of treatmenting liver malignancies is Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) which can be applied to primary or secondary tumors. Nevertheless, the disease recurrence is probable after RFA application partially due to the inadequate capability of temperature monitoring of the target tissue and visualizing the thermal damage. The goal of this work was t...

Relative brightness due to temperature changes with ultrasound image analysis during Radiofrequency ablation

Introduction: Diagnosis of primary and secondary cancers to treat patients with diffuse and malignant tumors is an important subject. The appropriate treatment will be eliminating primary and metastatic tumors. Radiofrequency ablation with localized heat induction in the target tissue causes irreversible cellular damage and tissue coagulation. Estimation of tissue temperature c...

Noninvasive assessment of tissue heating during cardiac radiofrequency ablation using MRI thermography.

BACKGROUND Failure to achieve properly localized, permanent tissue destruction is a common cause of arrhythmia recurrence after cardiac ablation. Current methods of assessing lesion size and location during cardiac radiofrequency ablation are unreliable or not suited for repeated assessment during the procedure. MRI thermography could be used to delineate permanent ablation lesions because tiss...

I-46: Radiofrequency Ablation of Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are benign solid tumors that are present in the majority of women. While often asymptomatic, fibroids can result in abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, subfertility, dyspareunia and other symptoms. Submucous and intramural fibroids are most associated with heavy menstrual bleeding; subserosal fibroids are more often innocuous unless sufficiently large so as to con...

Impedance monitoring during radiofrequency catheter ablation in humans.

Radiofrequency catheter ablation of accessory pathways and the atrioventricular junction often requires multiple applications of energy. The inability to determine the effects of any given application on the underlying tissue may contribute to this problem. In the present study, impedance was monitored in 20 patients undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation, and the relationship between an i...
